Cheers to Five Years

By: Julia Demma

It has been five years full of glamor for our Mothership location - Moda Winfield. After an in-house expansion and renovation, two additional locations, and the opening of a sister company, it’s safe to say the growth has been exponential. Behind all of the glam and growth was a dream, and now, we raise a glass to celebrate the dream that became a reality.

We sat down with Queen B herself - Hannah Hartmann, Owner and CEO of Moda Beauty Bar, to reflect on the past five years in business.

Q. How did you get the idea to create the Moda brand?

A. To be honest, I had no plans to open my own business. I loved the beauty industry and in 2012, it was not at all what it is today. The self care movement was about to begin, lashes were just starting to pop up and gain popularity, and I had a hard time finding a place to work around this area that was on top of the latest trends, marketing, offered growth opportunities, and provided an aesthetic spot to work at. I knew the area was lacking a place that could offer all of these points, and I decided to just make it happen and create what I had begun envisioning.

Q. What made you compelled to be a business owner?

A. I think all the jobs I have had leading up to becoming a business owner have helped me become the person I am today. Overall, I want to have a space that I would want my children to work at. I have always been a born leader; I played sports growing up and being in a team environment has always been my favorite. Work truly doesn't feel like work when you love what you are doing.

Q. What do you strive to provide your consumers on the regular?

A. I strive to provide an inviting environment for both customers and my team. I want people to feel comfortable when they walk in, receive a top-notch service, and have an entire experience from start to finish.

Q. What do you believe makes the Moda Brand stand out amongst the crowd?

A. I strive every single day to be on top of my game when it comes to being up-to-date on beauty and marketing trends. I think it really sets us apart and makes us set the bar in this industry for our area. A few years ago, I wanted to do a lifestyle photoshoot to use for branding, and instead of hiring models, I wanted the team to be in all the photos. Now, one of our favorite things to do together is our branding shoots.

Q. What does being female-owned mean to you?

A. Since being a little girl, my dad has always told me to reach for the stars and that I could do anything I set my mind to. That has always stuck with me- I do not take no for an answer. I love that my dad instilled in me that a woman can do anything a man can do, because it's so true!!

Q. Any advice to other females looking to make a big business move?

A. Be ready for anything. It's all about how you handle any hard situation and make it into something positive. Nothing good comes easy. Also NEVER let anyone ever doubt you. When I first started my business, even some of my closest family and friends doubted me. Now look at the company five years later: we have two locations, a beauty academy, mobile bridal business, and two med spas!

Q. Looking forward, what are you most excited for in the upcoming months?

A. Number one is our new Winfield building and all our new services we will be offering to our clients!

Q. Anything you would like to say in regards to being open for five years to your team / supporters?

A. I'm so thankful for all of our clients and my team that have helped me make my wildest dreams come true! I can't wait for the new era of Moda Winfield in our new space along with all of the new services we have to offer!
